When was the first time you heard music? No, not the first Oldies song that you knew all the lyrics to or the Paula Abdul music video that you studied obsessively. When was the first time you realized music would become as important in your life as, say, three meals a day? When did music … Continue reading
Sarah explains the disappearance of Katie (don’t worry, she’ll come back around) and proposes a road trip to check out Surfer Blood opening for the Pixies in Asbury Park. Who’s in? The AudioVole caravan has room for more and, believe you me, it’ll be legendary.
To bring you Generation Catalano! Doree Shafrir has a particularly great article in Slate this week, which is itself a response to an interesting think-piece in New York Magazine by 27-year-old Noreen Malone, who wrote about her generation, the Millennials. In the article Shafrir muses that there should be a little micro-generation that can fit … Continue reading
Marites continues the conversation on Surfer Blood’s new EP Tarot Classics and confesses to walking out on the band a couple of years ago when they played in Vegas. She was really only there to see her friends play in the opening act so no hard feelings guys, right???
Here at AudioVole, we hope that one of the discs taking up residence in your old Case Logic CD book is The Strokes’ first studio album Is This It. Let’s go crate-digging and revisit the year 2001 with Zach Evans and Marites Velasquez as they dissect and celebrate the 10th anniversary of Is This It.
Sarah, Marites, and AudioVole newcomer Katie Gallegos indulge in a 3-way conversation about Surfer Blood’s new EP Tarot Classics. Sarah kicks off the conversation but lobs the hard questions over to Marites and Katie because, as acting editor, she can do that. These three ladies also play in a band together and want you to … Continue reading
Zach and Marites wrap up the crate-digging dialectic celebrating the ten-year anniversary of The Strokes’ album Is This It. As a bonus, we’ll hook you up with all the tracks on the tribute album STROKED including covers from some AudioVole favorites like Chelsea Wolfe and Real Estate. Come on, it’s Monday. Let’s get sentimental.
Chris and Sarah fill their ears with Real Estate’s Days and find the band’s sophomore release to be tighter, catchier, and decidedly less beachy than their earlier work. They come to this conclusion after eating fish tacos, insulting each other (in the mild-mannered way that AudioVolers do), and then coming to their senses.
In Part 4, Sarah daydreams about what shape Days might take in human form. Then she gets a grip and discusses the highlights of the album and has an epiphany that Real Estate sounds kind of like Beulah if Beulah chilled out a little bit.
In Part 3, Chris comes around to Days and admits Sarah might have made a good point or two although not without attempts to distract readers by name-dropping fancy French filmakers first (you’ve been warned). And despite finding some common ground, Chris still manages to sign off with a not-so-veiled threat to “clockwork orange” Sarah. We’re … Continue reading
