St. Vincent’s third album, Strange Mercy, may be her best and may be one of the best of the year. Brandon goes about falling in love Annie Clark all over again. Greg searches for a craving that never comes. The full dialectic after the jump.
Greg relishes in the comforts of his 30s. Just one step closer to death, I say. No wonder he picked the “Surgeon” quote as his valediction. Annie Clark then confesses her love. Brandon, of course, reciprocates.
Brandon went to Wal-Mart and bought himself some ammunition for his .22 hyperbole gun. He then went home, pulled the gun out of the safe in his garage, loaded up, and fired it at the internets. “Strange Mercy is a flawless album.” His words, not mine. Brandon briefly thinks about writing with structure a skill, then decides, “Eh, screw it,” and just scribbles out a list of thoughts. Brilliant thoughts, obviously. Things covered include Matt Sharp = Jay Bennet. Pinkerton = Vs. Music Videos = Murderers of Rock Stars.
Greg claims he had a girlfriend in 1997 but the reason nobody ever met her was because she lived 30 minutes away, but seriously, guys, he totally had a girlfriend. Srsly. Don’t worry Greg, I believe you. He also shares some thoughts on Pinkerton, for what it’s worth. Mini-spoiler: He’s still cool with it. Part … Continue reading

Brandon’s first up to bat. Part 1 after … Continue reading
